The recent Delhi-rape case was one of the most debated issues and it raised lots of unexpected questions about women safety. Government is introducing various new strict laws for women protection but above all, women should be aware about tackling these critical situations calmly and intelligently. Technology can play an important role in such situations and can bring you out quickly.

women+safety
Well, what will you do if you find yourself in a similar violent situation? You’ll probably scream out for help or probably try to call or notify out known helpful resources.  Among these, notifying the help resources seems much stronger. And there are plenty of applications for Android users that can help you in notifying the help resources with just a single click or tap. These applications are capable of sending your name, type of emergency situation along with your physical GPS location over text messages. So, over the due course of this we’ll be discussing some similar applications that can help you out in such critical situations.

Circle of 6

circle+of+6

Circle of 6 application is available on Android as well as on iPhone. This application has beautiful easy to use interface and mechanism that can be used by women, students and perhaps by everyone very easily and quickly. They can use this application to alert their friends quickly whenever they found themselves in a threatening or harassing situation. The application will be fully functional when you subscribe to available monthly or a yearly plan. The application is extremely easy to operate and two gentle tap will send one of three available messages to your 6 favourite pre-mentioned friends.  These messages will include your name, the type of situation in which you’re and your GPS location. Apart from this you can even request a call back seeking advice from your friends in a tense situation. The application comes with lot of national as well as security department’s numbers. The application is highly rated, highly trusted and highly recommended to everyone.

Nirbhaya

Nirbhaya

Nirbhaya is a Hindi word which means fearless. This application is a tribute to brave Delhi-rape incident girl. Nirbhaya is capable of handling emergency situations and capable of sending notifications to pre-assigned contacts like your name, type of emergency situation along with your physical GPS location over text messages. The notification can be send quickly with a single tap on panic button.  Apart from basic functionalities, it allows you to organise contacts intelligently to tackle different types of emergency situations like Molestation, natural disaster, accident, etc. You can even feed the contacting information about the nearby helping-authorities like Police station, hospital, police supervisor and moreover you can even include or import any contact from your phonebook. The another thing which I like the most about this application is the Facebook  integration which means on pressing the panic button on the application, an emergency status will be posted automatically on your Facebook wall.  You can also enable the emergency email support.  The application is highly rated and free to download from Google Play.

bSafe

besafe

bSafe is another helpful application that is capable of sending help message with a single tap to your pre-determined contacts. The best thing about bSafe is that you can send SOS messages to your pre-determined contacts which in turn eliminate all impossibilities of sending messages even when you’re not subscribed to a messaging plan. Your single tap will send message to your pre-determined contacts, your GPS location and apart from that 3 pre-assigned contacts will receive a SOS call from you. Moreover you can also set up a pre-planned fake call with lot of timing options.

Like circle of 6 this application also involves monthly or yearly service subscription plans. The monthly plan will cost you $1.99 per month and yearly plan will cost you around $14.99 per year. As of now, they are offering three months free subscription, so you can test this application before getting into paid subscription plans. The application will work with basic features even if you are not subscribing to any plan, however some of the premium features needs monthly or yearly subscription.

Fight Back

fightback

The last in our list is Fight Back which is believed to be first mobile application in India for women empowerment.  The application is available for various platforms and is specially designed to tackle the emergency situations calmly. Like other applications, Fight back is also capable of sending notifications to pre-assigned contacts like your name, type of emergency situation along with your physical GPS location over text messages.  It will also automatically post the emergency notification on your Facebook profile.

It’s almost similar to the Nirbhaya application but Fight back uses its own gateway for sending messages notifications.  Apart from this, the Fight back has a beautiful web interface too. Application is free to download and can be downloaded anytime from the official website.

Verdict:

All the applications are efficient and offer lot of options to users.  While some may not afford subscription, they can go with free applications like Nirbhaya and Fight back. Both Fight back and Nirbhaya seems to be much powerful than others and does includes plenty of extra notifications options. While Fight back uses its own gateway for sending messages, Nirbhaya on the other hand needs either sufficient balance or message subscription enabled on your mobile. Applications are advertised for woman empowerment but they can be used by anyone.

Spicy West African Peanut Soup

This soup is rich and velvety smooth and a beautiful orangey- brown color. Since the early years at Moosewood, it’s been a perennial customer request, and it always shows up multiple times on surveys of our fans’ favorites. For many Moosewood cooks, it’s a good old standard at home.
Peanut soups and sauces are found throughout West Africa. Moosewood cook Nancy Lazarus developed West African-style peanut soup for our Sundays at Moosewood Restaurant cookbook, and more than thirty years later, she developed this revised version to reflect how we do it today, a bit simpler and still divinely delicious.
West African Peanut Soup
Yields: 9 cups
Time: 1 hour
Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or olive oil
  • 2 cups chopped onions
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons peeled and grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon Tabasco, or other hot sauce, or 1 fresh hot pepper, minced
  • 4 cups peeled chopped sweet potatoes (about 1 1⁄2 pounds whole)
  • 3 cups water
  • 3 cups tomato juice
  • 1 cup smooth peanut butter
  • 1⁄4 cup chopped fresh cilantro chopped scallions or chives
Preparation
Warm the oil in a covered soup pot on medium heat.
Add the onions, celery, and salt and cook, stirring frequently, until softened, 10 to 15 minutes.
Stir in the ginger and hot sauce or hot pepper.
Add the sweet potatoes and water and stir well. Bring to a boil, cover, and simmer until the vegetables are very tender, about 20 minutes. Add the tomato juice and peanut butter to the pot. In a blender in batches, or using an immersion blender, purée the soup until smooth.
Add the cilantro and reheat gently. Add more salt and hot sauce to taste.
Serve topped with scallions or chives.

10 Fun Ways To Increase Your Confidence Today

If you struggle with food, you most likely also struggle with body image. And when you spend so many years struggling with both food and your body image, it undoubtedly affects your self-esteem and confidence. You spend every day telling yourself that you can’t actually eat what you want, that you can’t actually work out the way you want to, and that the size of your jeans HAS to change.
When you constantly tell yourself that what you truly want is not right and that you need to change, your self-esteem takes a major hit.
Women who come to me with food issues all have confidence issues as well. They want to feel awesome in a bathing suit, they want to feel sexy every day, they want to get out there and start dating, but their confidence is so tarnished from years of carrying around the diet mentality, that these things seem impossible.
The thing is, true confidence is all in our own minds. It’s found in the relationship with have with ourselves, not the validation we get from others.
As women, our bodies are going to constantly change. As we grow older, become mothers, have more kids, and go through constant lifestyle changes, our bodies are bound to change. It’s so important that we know how to tap into our own confidence at any time, regardless of how tight our butt currently is.
Here are 10 ways to immediately increase confidence. The best part…you can try doing these things right away!
1. Put on a bold lipstick.
This immediately makes you feel like you own your beauty and your sexy. It’s scary, but incredibly empowering.
2. Stand up straight and crack a smile.
Research shows that good posture makes us believe in and feel better about ourselves. Just by pulling your shoulders back and turning your lips up a bit you feel powerful and like you’re proud of your body and who you are.
3. Act like you’ve had a glass of vino.
You know how your inhibitions go away when you get a glass of wine in you? If you’re feeling small, or judging yourself, think about how you’d act if you had a glass of wine in you. This should immediately relax you, loosen you up and help you stop judging yourself for every little thing that’s “wrong” with you.
4. Dress up, as much as possible.
Especially on those days when you feel fat or insecure, put on an awesome dress, heels, and jewelry that expresses who you are. This celebrates the gorgeous woman that you are and makes you feel powerful.
5. Make eye contact with a stranger.
Looking strangers in the eye gives us a warm feeling of connection and like there is something more important than how tight our jeans feel. It reminds us of community, relationships, and love.
6. Watch the negative thoughts pass you by.
Know that you are whole and complete, and that nothing is wrong with you. Watch the pesky negative thoughts that tell you otherwise come into your head, and recognize that they are JUST thoughts. Let them come in to your head and watch them leave. You don’t need to believe them.
7. Fall a little more in love with your life today.
Often times we aren’t confident because we aren’t in love with the lives that we are living. We're in jobs we don’t love, relationships that aren’t great, and doing too much for others. We aren’t proud of ourselves. Do one thing that you’re really proud of yourself for today. Book a massage, say no to something you truly don’t want to do, block off an hour of “you” time.
8. Do an act of kindness.
Give away money, buy a stranger coffee, hold the door for a group of people. When you do something nice for someone else, you feel good about yourself and fall more in love with who you are.
9. Connect to your body.
Every day this week, do one thing that connects you to your physical body. Diligently put on lotion for five minutes in the morning, massage a body part, take a bath or look at yourself naked in the mirror. As dieters, we are very disconnected from our bodies. This brings you back home.
10. Do something crazy.
Tell your guy friend you actually really like him, join a new club, speak your mind even when it’s controversial, get stuck in the rain on purpose, send out that email you’ve been scared to write. Every time you push your limits and your range, you're reminded of your power and the fact that you can do anything. Your limits are endless.
These tips can be used if you struggle with confidence, with food, or most likely, with both. If you need more advice regarding your struggle with food, download my free guide to end binge eating.
